WGN
Memories
Ward Quaal
General Manager
Ward
Quaal began his WGN career in 1941 as an announcer. In 1956
he was named General Manager. Quaal's leadership guided the station
through its next two decades, and he is responsible for hiring many
of the people who contributed to WGN's success even long after his
departure.
On March 15,
2004, Ward Quaal sat down with WGN Radio Production Director Todd
Manley to talk about his WGN Memories. Quaal shared his recollections
of his early career, memorable moments including the day he was
on the air when the first Pearl Harbor bulletin was received, and
stories about colleagues including Wally
Phillips and Walter Cronkite. Click
