Biography:

Lyle Dean is a legendary Chicago news anchor. Now enjoying the benefits of retirement, he still is heard occasionally as a fill-in anchor at WGN Radio. In the past, he's worked with such Chicago morning radio celebrities as Clark Weber, Larry Lujack, Fred Winson, Art Roberts, Bob Sirott and the late Bob Collins.

Lyle's current endeavor is sailing. You can follow his adventures at his blog: mynewspod.com.

Lyle began his news career in Chicago in 1968 on WLS. During three of his ten years there, he also anchored ABC Radio Network newscasts out of Chicago. From there he served as news director of WFYR, prior to joining WGN in 1984.

During those years, Lyle developed the computerized Emergency Closing Center that serves area schools, businesses, and radio and television stations including WGN. He also began the syndicated series To Your Health. Lyle also started what is now the Illinois News Network and Tribune Radio Networks, where he served as General Manager for three years.

Lyle left WGN in 1996 to help start Channel Earth Communications, an agriculture-based television network. He returned in 1998.

Lyle has served as president of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association. His work has received the Jacob Sher Award for investigative reporting and the Morris Fishbein Award for medical writing. He has also received various UPI and Associated Press awards.

Lyle and his wife Sharon live in Northbrook. Their children Kirsten and Erik live in the Chicago area.
