A
"radio comic strip" starring Freeman Gosden (left in
above photo) as "Sam" and Charles Correll (right) as
"Henry." Sam 'n' Henry premiered January 12,
1926, and aired nightly from 10-10:10pm. The program would eventually
move to another station and become Amos 'n' Andy.
Although
now considered to be offensive due to its portrayal of racial
stereotypes, the program was extremely popular in its day and
was also one of the first programs to combine music and scripted
dialogue in what Tribune executive Ben T. McCanna called "radio
theater."
